What we offer?
We understand trauma and the feelings that come with it, and provide a relaxed, confidential, non-judgemental environment for you to feel listened to and heard, maybe for the first time in your life. Whilst helping you to identify the issues that are affecting you, and impacting your daily functioning, my aim is to connect with you and together we can work to unravel your thoughts and make sense of your symptoms, and using bilateral stimulation (BLS), facilitate growth and healing for the brain and body.
We provide face to face and online sessions.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITISATION AND REPROCESSING.
It is a ground breaking treatment for psychological trauma and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) that is endorsed by the W.H.O. (World Health Organisation) and N.I.C.E. (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).
EMDR is an innovative clinical treatment which has successfully helped millions of individuals. The validity and reliability of EMDR has been established by rigorous research. There are now nineteen controlled studies into EMDR making it the most thoroughly researched method used in the treatment of trauma, but it can be used to help other issues too.
It Involves an 8 phase treatment plan that uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) of the left and right hemispheres of the brain, through guided eye movements or tapping, which ignites the brain's natural self healing mode, which then helps the brain to reprocess dysfunctionally stored memories and reduce the emotional distress associated with them. It can be done by tapping on one's knees or crossing the arms and tapping each shoulder, we call that a "butterfly hug". We also have a lightbar and hand held sensors. Basically, it doesn't really matter which method of BLS is used as long as it's a left/right movement.

How will I know if EMDR can help me?
The ups and downs of life are to be expected, however sometimes all the downs can come at once or be so huge that they simply knock us off our feet. Little things can build up over time until we just feel overwhelmed. Remember, everything that has happened in our lives since birth will have shaped the way we view ourselves, and interpret others and the world around us. Most people feel down from time to time, but if you find yourself struggling to function in your normal life you should consider talking to someone. Below is a list of common trauma symptoms:
difficulty sleeping /anxiety
racing thoughts and feelings of dread or fear/panic
persistent low mood/depression
being self critical or feeling like you have failed
poor self worth or feeling worthless
perfectionism
feelings of shame or embarrassment
needing to micro manage or control
drinking too much or using mood altering substances
If you have answered yes to any of these, then this could indicate you are suffering from unresolved trauma.
The causes of trauma can range from chronic and debilitating abuse and/or neglect as a child, to witnessing or receiving domestic abuse and coercive control. Having critical parents growing up, or even just a throw away comment from a teacher or other authority figure as a child or an adult can be really debilitating (e.g. "You'll never amount to anything!" Or, "You're stupid!")
